On one of our recent consignor trips we obtained an enormous framed piece that included a host of items signed by Hall of Famer Eddie Mathews. Each of the items in the frame - mostly cards but a few photos and cuts as well - had been carefully mounted with clear photo corners so as not to damage or permanently affix the items in the frame. The piece was a testament to a true fan who had amassed an astonishing number of signed Mathews pieces including several of considerable value. Unfortunately it was also a testament to the importance of UV glass as many of the signatures had faded over time in some cases beyond visbibility. We submitted all the pieces to PSA for authentication and encapsulation and while in some cases the signature was actually too light for them to authenticate most were encapsulated. Presented here is a grouping of six cards that exhibit some fading - both to the card and the signature - but still display reasonably well. Collection includes the following: 1) 1957 Topps #250; 2) 1959 Topps #212 "Fence Busters"; 3) 1959 Topps #450; 4) 1962 Post #147; 5) 1967 Astros Team Issue; 6) 1967 Topps #166. Six cards total.
