Identified on the reverse of the cabinet as "Harry Ganzel" (and incorrectly identified in our printed catalog the same way) the player depicted in this cabinet photo is actually catcher Charlie Ganzel. Though our initial impression was that the Walden Smith cabinets all depicted Player's League players Ganzel played the entire season with the Boston Beaneaters of the National League. Ganzel was a salary holdout with the Beaneaters at the end of the 1889 season and was heavily recruited to join the Reds but ultimately signed with the Beaneaters. As such given that the uniforms of the two clubs are very similar in photos we will assume that this is actually a National League photo and may actually date the rest of the Boston cabinets we have offered to 1889 as opposed to 1890.
