Small nearly square (2 x 2 1/4 inches) and very difficult to acquire in high-grade the R305 Tattoo Orbit set was issued in 1933 by Orbit Gum. Each of the set"s 60 subjects were depicted in black and white photographic images with flesh color added and very strong red and yellow color added to the background. The backs contained very basic biographical information. In a year that featured a host of classic baseball card sets the Tattoo Orbit set is often unheralded. Yet despite its size it remains one of the most challenging gum card sets of the 1930s and a classic example of a bygone era of collecting. This is a clean example with vivid color and strong centering consistent with the issue. An excellent intro to one of the more striking (and difficult to find) gum card sets.
