Exceptional high-grade Lucky Strike advertising trolley car sign one of five similar signs that have taken their place among the most desirable of all 1920s baseball advertising pieces. Heilmann's endorsement states "I smoke Luckies because they are the best " a simple statement before the company's "No throat irritation - no cough" claim. The baseball advertising campaign dates to 1928 a year that the Lucky Strike brand launched a massive advertising campaign that included not just ballplayers but many other celebrities. The baseball player selection included not just Heilmann but four other future Hall of Famers (Lloyd and Paul Waner Tony Lazzeri and Lefty Grove). The piece itself is of extraordinarily high-grade likely one that originated from a find of about fifty signs discovered in the 1970s from which most of the existing high-grade examples emanated. Professionally framed to a finished size of 22" x 12" and appears in outstanding condition though the frame prevents us from examining the edges and reverse. Originally won by our consignor in a 2000 auction the piece has remaned in its frame since. An outstanding and desirable piece one of the most important advertising display items in the hobby.
