Spectacular memento from late 19th Century baseball this child's pencil box is hand crafted from polished wood with a lithographic transfer of some sort affixed to the top depicting a baseball scene. Whenever we see uniforms of those colors from this period we think of Buck Ewing's Giants and Cap Anson's White Stockings but in reality these are likely two anonymous teams playing a game in front of some spectators players lounging along the first base line. The piece is in good condition with visible surface wear that has rubbed off the image in parts. Still functional and attractive the piece despite being worn at the edges is quite appealing a wonderful 19th Century baseball-related memento.
