A tougher card to find well-centered and in higher grades this is a sharp colorful example of Curley Ogden"s "33 Goudey card. Ogden had an important but dubious role in the Washington Senators" victory in Game 7 of the 1924 World Series against the New York Giants. Pitted against one of the greatest managers of all-time in John McGraw Senators manager Bucky Harris improbably announced the inexperienced Ogden as the starting pitcher for Game 7. Preparing his lineup to face the right-handed Ogden McGraw hit slugging first baseman Bill Terry fifth in the lineup a left-handed batter in-between the right-handed Highpockets Kelly and Hack Wilson in the powerful Giants lineup. With the lineup committed Harris let Ogden strike out the leadoff hitter Freddie Lindstrom and walk Frankie Frisch to start off the game - and then pulled Ogden in favor of southpaw George Mogridge the pitcher Harris actually intended to pitch the bulk of the game. This move neutralized Terry"s left-handed bat to the point where McGraw pulled Terry from the game after just two at bats and the Senators went on to stage a late comeback and win the game - and the World Series - with Giants" star Bill Terry on the bench.Ogden went on to pitch two more seasons in the Major Leagues before moving to the International League where he is represented on his 1933 Goudey card.Population Data: PSA Population: 211 total graded 27 at this level 13 higherSGC Population: 58 total graded 7 at this level 2 higher
