Attractive button tag press pass to the 1939 All-Star game at Yankee Stadium as issued to Gus Steiger of the Sunday Mirror. The American Leaguers won the game 3-1 Doc Cramer starting at first base. Baseball was in the midst of celebrating its centennial season and yet the game's most popular player - Lou Gehrig - did not play in the game. Gehrig was in uniform the captain of the American League but had not played since May as doctors at the Mayo Clinic had diagnosed him with ALS. There was much to write about as Gehrig passed the torch to a new Yankee hero Joe DiMaggio who would contribute a home run to the AL cause. The pass is in FAIR condition a large crease at the bottom developing into a tear at the grommet several other creases visible on the piece. Still an important pass.
