John Ganzel was a first baseman and manager who played with five teams between 1898 and 1908 and managed the 1908 Cincinnati Reds and briefly the Federal League's 1915 Brooklyn Tip Tops. His minor league career was more prolific as he managed five minor league teams over the course of 16 seasons including five seasons as manager of the Rochester Bronchos of the Eastern League (1909-11) and Rochester Hustlers of the International League (1912-15). Ganzel is pictured here as a member of the 1909 Rochester Bronchos a team Ganzel managed to a first place finish at the top of the Eastern League. Members of that team included such familiar names as Cy Barger Emil Batch Roy Beecher Harry Pattee and Bill Chappelle. For his part Ganzel batted .305 in 429 at bats with the team. Difficult 1 1/4" 1909 pinback was manufactured by the Bastian Brothers Co of Rochester and remains in excellent condition its original paper backing still intact slight patina around the edge and curl. Slightly toned the image of Ganzel remains strong.
