Attractive 1 1/2" press pin from the 1970 All-Star Game in Cincinnati's Riverfront Stadium. The 1970 game was a 12-inning nail-biter that likely changed the nature of All-Star play forever. A tight well-played game Pete Rose came to the plate in the bottom of the 12th with two out and singled to center field off Clyde Wright of the Angels. Rose advanced to second on a single by Billy Grabarkewitz. Then Jim Hickman of the Cubs singled to center. Rose came around third and AL centerfielder Amos Otis threw home. Rose barreled into the American League catcher Ray Fosse hitting .313 with 16 home runs in the first half. Fosse's injury was severe (a fractured and separated shoulder that was misdiagnosed and healed incorrectly) and Rose was criticized by many - including Fosse - for his aggressive play. After 1970 the All-Star game was never treated as more than a meaningless exhibition by most players unwilling to be injured during a show. The press pin is in EX/MT condition with little wear an outstanding document of one of the most memorable and infamous All-Star games in the history of the sport.
