Spectacular Louisville Slugger bat model B220 confirmed by player ordering records as having been ordered by Maris during the 1963 season. Measuring 34.875" and weighing in at 32.1 ounces the uncracked bat exhibits exceptional signs of use. Ball and stitch impressions are visible on the entire barrel with cleat marks and long blue bat rack streaks. The bat also exhibits a light coating of pine tar on the handle. The bat's model number is stamped into the knob. The resulting match of factory records clearly identifiable player characteristics and signs of use have resulting in the stellar grade of GU 9 by John Taube of PSA/DNA. By 1963 Roger Maris was a household name having won two MVP awards and broken Babe Ruth's longstanding single-season home run record. The 28-year-old outfielder suffered through an injury-plagued 1963 appearing in just 90 games but still mashing 23 home runs with a .269 batting average. He managed just five plate appearances and no hits in the 1963 World Series against the Dodgers but would recover in 1964 playing two more seasons in New York before being traded to St. Louis. The opportunity to own a vintage high-grade game-used bat from the player many still feel is the true single-season Home Run King is an extraordinary one. In outstanding condition an incredible piece of Yankee lumber.
