Clean unblemished Wilson American League Ball brand baseball signed boldly in steel-tip fountain pen by Babe Ruth. The sweet spot signature has faded somewhat but remains entirely legible and dark enough for a quality display. The most valuable and highly desired signature in the hobby today Babe Ruth single-signed baseballs continue to skyrocket in value despite their plentiful nature. Vintage sweet spot signature balls are particularly sought after due to their outstanding display characteristics; this one is quite strong. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication. ADDENDUM: We have spent some time over the past few days researching the ball itself in an effort to help some bidders who are attempting to date the signature. While we would never speculate on the age of the signature we were able to find some information about the ball. The "Thos.E.Wilson&Co." logo stamped at the top of the ball (see photo) appears to have been used roughly between 1919 and 1929 by Wilson on baseball equipment. The model number W151 "American League Ball" appears in the company's 1924 equipment catalog though the stampings on the ball in that catalog appear slightly different than on this model. Late 1920s catalogs do not seem to include the W151 (though it's entirely possible it was still manufactured). Based on this though we believe the ball likely dates from the early to mid 1920s.
