A remnant of the "Vermont Find" of Old Judge-related images the find included all the Old Judge glass plate negatives currently known to exist along with a number of photographic prints featuring different shots of the same player were also found. Research has indicated that these photographs were made after 1900 from the original glass plate negatives and not in the 1880s. However the image quality remains outstanding with exceptional contrast and clarity thought the photographic paper exhibits multiple cracks related to its age. What is interesting about this photo is that it is not one of the three confirmed poses of Doran found in the N172 Old Judge set. Of the three known poses one pictures Doran leaning against the bat another pictures him catching a ball and the third pictures him kneeling to field a grounder. This photo depicts Doran standing leaning against a classic ring-style bat. Also included is a second smaller print of the same photograph which was once mounted in an album of some sort black photo corners still attached at the right side of the photo. Envisioning an N172 with this kind of image clarity and contrast is wonderful. Seeing an original photo like this taken from the original negatives is a fantastic experience. An outstanding hobby find.
