I have one to sell!
Interesting leather Fatima cigarette case measuring approximately 2 1/2" x 3 1/8". The hard case resembles a backgammon dice cup but has a sliding inner shell into which cigarettes could be stored. The Fatima Turkish Cigarettes logo is debossed on the outside in gold leaf and the reverse has additional embossed type reading "The American Chemical Society/Rochester/Sept. 8 1913." This piece was originally consigned to us with an empty soft package that once housed Fatima cigarettes with a 1913 date overstamped on the tax stamp. Rolled inside the perimeter of the package is a tattered T200 Fatima Brooklyn Nationals card and two Fatima redemption coupons. The implication of course was that we were seeing a Fatima package containing the card and coupons it was packaged with along with a leather case owned by a Fatima smoker circa 1913. We have long been under the impression however that the T200 and T222 cigarette issues were packaged only in 100-count cigarette tins bearing the Fatima brand wrapped in foil and wax paper. We consulted tobacco pack expert Jon Canfield owner of the baseballandtobacco.com website and Jon was in agreement in that he had never heard evidence of the Fatima cards being issued in soft packs nor have either of us seen Fatima cards with folding and wear consistent with being packaged in this way. Our conclusion is that while all the components are authentic the pieces were assembled as a fantasy piece. Our consignor was unaware of this when purchasing the package and since each of the components still have value asked us to sell it for him anyway. Since each of the components are items that we sell we agreed. The T200 card included herein is rolled into the shape of the inner soft package with a torn edge that almost appears as if it was ripped while pulling it out of the pack. Condition is poor. Inner coupons also exhibit wear. The package is opened and the top torn away. The leather case itself is in good condition with notable wear at the edges and some separation at the seams the inner shell more dark and rich than the outer due to age-related color fading.
