Spectacular advertising poster for Goldsmith Sporting Goods professionally matted and framed to a finished size of 17" x 24" featuring ten major league players including eight Hall of Famers - some of the greatest to ever set foot on a diamond. Christy Mathewson Walter Johnson Honus Wagner Ty Cobb Nap Lajoie Frank Chance Johnny Evers and Eddie Collins are joined by Jimmy Sheckard and Johnny Kling on this incredible piece that advertises Goldsmith baseballs and baseball gloves. Almost difficult to believe such a piece exists the ad contains quoted product endorsements from Sheckard Evers Kling Wagner Mathewson and Johnson in addition to to photographs. The professional framing makes it difficult to us to determine what type of paper the piece is printed on but it does not appear to be newsprint. It does appear that the paper is coated perhaps some sort of laminate for display. The piece exhibits folding in eights and some of the folds have worn to the point where in some cases there is small tears in the fold. A light stain is evident over the images of Walter Johnson and Honus Wagner. Due to the matting and framing we are unable to examine the edges or reverse. The display is wonderful including some very familiar images of some of the greatest players in history. This piece was consigned from one of the most incredible collections of advertising display materials that we have ever witnessed. We have never seen another example of this piece but each of the photos used on the poster were used in Goldsmith equipment catalogs in the 1909-15 era. The display quality is tremendous though the flaws are clearly evident the photos and typography are clearly visible and legible the wear not impacting the aesthetic appeal to any great degree.
