Beautiful tintype photograph of ballplayer team executive and legendary sportswriter Tim Murnane. A member of the Baseball Hall of Fame's Honor Rolls of Baseball Murnane's photo was taken at the famous Vine Street Galleries of Philadelphia a studio owned by James R. Applegate. Murnane was a member of the Philadelphia Athletics in 1873 and 1764 during which time it is likely this photo was taken. The photo was discovered recently along with several others in a Philadelphia estate sale and was the subject of a SABR Pictorial History Committee article by facial recognition expert Mark Fimoff this past summer. The tintype is in excellent condition with exceptional clarity mounted inside a worn paper sleeve the Vine Street Galleries advertising info printed on the reverse. Murnane's name is written in pencil on the reverse (as were the names of other subjects included in the estate sale). The mount is in GOOD condition with light soiling and considerable wear to the corners and edges none of which impacts the quality of the photo itself. An exceptional one-of-a-kind image of a legendary figure in the game's history.
