Team-issued 10x8" photo of the 1957 Columbus (Georgia) Foxes the single-A South Atlantic League affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. Managed by Skeeter Newsome just a handful of players from the Foxes ever made it to the majors but one was very very important - pitcher Bob Gibson shown here in the front row second from right. Just 21 years old Gibson was in his first pro season where he began at the AAA level with the Cardinals' Omaha affiliate. In July he was sent to class A Columbus where he had a difficult time with the treatment he received there due to his race. Fortunately his time there would be brief but not brief enough to miss the team photo. Graded VG 3 and encapsulated in the giant Beckett holder the photo presents extremely well for the grade an outstanding pre-rookie image of one of the greatest pitchers of his era.
