Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1971 as an executive George Weiss created the Yankees' farm system in the 1930s building what is often referred to as the greatest minor league franchise in history the Newark Bears of the late 1930s. He was promoted to Vice President and General Manager of the Yankees in 1947 along with Casey Stengel leading the team to seven World Championships and ten AL pennants in 13 seasons. Weiss begain managing teams at an early age assembling players form his high school team in New Haven Connecticut into a semipro team called thte New Haven Colonials. The team occasionally used Ty Cobb as a ringer and played Babe Ruth's Boston Red Sox to a tie in 1916. The club is pictured two years iearlier on this RPPC (the young Weiss not in uniform) postally unused but in FAIR condition as assessed by SGC due to some writing on the reverse. An outstanding "pre-rookie" image of the Hall of Fame executive.
