"Impossibly Rare" is the best way to describe this incredible 1934 Diamond Matchbooks matchcover of hall of fame lineman Walter Kiesling. As is the case with other subjects in the Diamond Matchbooks offerings there is no real accepted "rookie card" of Kiesling most collectors depending on modern tribute cards to fill the space. For years the 1934 Diamond Matchbooks checklist contained a matchbook of Kiesling but none had ever been discovered. As collectors began to question its existence at all one example finally surfaced in 2009 - this one. A second example was discovered in 2011. To date those are the only two known examples. Presented here is that first discovery which was uncovered as part of an advanced collection in 2009 and purchased by our consignor who has had it in his collection until now. It is graded POOR 10 by SGC which is utterly irrelevant due to the extreme rarity of the piece. A critical item for matchbook collectors and Hall of Fame collectors alike likely the closest thing we have to a true rookie of Kiesling one of just two known examples. Given its rarity it may be years before a 1934 Kiesling hits the market again.
