Attractive card from the 1920s multi-sport set issued by the Spalding Sporting Goods Company. Graded GOOD 30 the card features Ernie Nevers one of the greatest football players of his era and member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Nevers led the 1925 Stanford football team to a 7-2 record receiving All-American first-team honors. A multi-sport athlete he became a pitcher with the 1926 St. Louis Browns and then joined the Duluth Eskimos of the National Football League for the 1926 season. He continued as a two-sport athlete until the end of the 1928 baseball season coaching both baseball and football at Stanford in 1928 then joining the Chicago Cardinals in 1929. This example of Nevers' pre-rookie card has been graded GOOD 30 by SGC due to some sort of staining on the reverse. The "ad back" variation just two have been graded by SGC with but one more from PSA. A rare and valuable card the true rookie of a player who's rookie card is considered by the hobby to be his 1955 Topps All-American issue.
