Simply incredible piece of Yankees history assembled by a dedicated fan during the 1948 season. Beginning in Spring Training a young New York-area girl began corresponding with Yankees players by mail. Over the course of the season she exchanged letters with a variety of Yankees and they responded by providing her observations about the team snapshots pitching tips and more. She artfully assembled them into this scrapbook taping the envelopes plus their contents into the album. More than 50 signatures are included including many multiples as there are lengthy exchanges with many players. In some areas she affixed cut signatures to the pages. Also included is a Spring Training program signed by Joe DiMaggio Phil Rizzuto Tommy Byrne Joe Page and more. Some of the names contained in the album include Rizzuto DiMaggio Lou Boudreau Al Schact Bobby Brown Hank Bauer Gene Woodling Gil McDougald Joe Collins Randy Gumbert Tommy Byrne Allie Reynolds George Stirnweiss Mel Allon and many more. The album is extremely delicate 70 years old now with brittle paper. Most of the pages have separated from the spine and continue to deteriorate with repeated use. Clearly this book has been loved by its owner for years. The owner grew up an enormous sports fan eventually becoming president of the New York Islanders booster club. She passed away this summer and much of her collection of hockey jerseys is included elsewhere in this auction. A well-loved piece originating from the 1948 New York Yankees.
