Beautiful ornate stock certificate from the Salt Lake City Baseball Corporation. Dated February 4 1958 and signed by Scott Gillespie (the transfer agent for the Bees) this stock certificate was made out to Ray Larch the proud owner of ten shares of Salt Lake City Bees stock. At some point thereafter someone ostensibly Larch wrote at the bottom of the certificate in light pencil one word: "Worthless."After the Brooklyn Dodgers moved to Los Angeles in 1957 the LA-based Hollywood Stars facing a rapidly declining fan base elected to move back to Salt Lake City. The company sold shares to raise funds. The Bees continued until finally folding in 1965.An interesting and attractive piece of PCL history that helps to document that league"s struggles in the face of Major League Baseball"s westward expansion of the late 1950s.
