Founded in 1881 the Underwood & Underwood company was a producer of stereoviews at one point the largest in the world. Eventually the company became known for its news photography. This postcard featuring Christy Mathewson is an exceptionally beautiful example one of just three examples to have been graded (with just one higher an SGC 50 example). The postcards are extremely desirable for their exceptional photography and their scarcity and the Mathewson is unquestionably the key. A treasure of a postcard from one of the deadball era's most widely collected players.
