Unusual and very rare Buffalo Bisons cabinet photo part of a series of cabinet cards that related to the 1879 Buffalo Bisons each featuring detailed and humorous illustrations related to Bisons games for that season. While we have not seen these cabinets credited this way a sliver of the upper portion of the image seems to credit Thomas Nast the great political cartoonist and Harper's Weekly illustrator with the creation of the cartoon. The two vignettes covered on this cabinet appear to deal with games played on September 23 and 24 and make humorous reference to the events of each of those games. The top portion of the cabinet takes a poke at Hall of Famer Jim O'Rourke and contains an illustration of what appears to be Pud Galvin while the bottom features Bisons players Joe Hornung and Bill McGonigle. This particularly rare cabinet is in VG/EX condition with some minor edge and corner wear the photographic portion is outstanding with minor soiling on the reverse. Potentially created by the "Father of political cartooning" Thomas Nast featuring two 19th Century Hall of Famers.
