Though the name "Jack Dempsey" in boxing connotes one of the great heavyweights of all time it is Jack "Nonpareil" Dempsey first holder of the World Middleweight Championship depicted on this beautiful N174 Old Judge. Obtaining his nickname due to a reputation for being unbeatable "Nonpareil" posted a 51-4-11 record. One of the most famous fighters of his day the Irish native who resided in Brooklyn was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1992. Presented here is an extraordinarily high-grade N174 Old Judge card of Dempsey strong enough to have attained a grade of NM 84 by SGC. Only three examples of this card have attained a grade of NM by any grading company - one by PSA and two by SGC. Given that this is a freshly-graded example and we have not seen another NM Dempsey since the sale of the other SGC-graded example sold in 2012 it is entirely possible that the other "two" Dempseys are one in the same and that the SGC-graded card was simply crossed to PSA. Regardless a truly magnificent specimen from one of the most important boxing issues ever created a truly rare and desirable card.
