Attractive linen advertising card from a hotel lounge signed and inscribed on the reverse by Olympian Jesse Owens. The signature and inscription is strong and bold. Handwritten on the reverse in neat black ink is "Secured in coffee shop of Milwaukee's Hotel Schroeder June 1936." At the bottom of the card is written "Voted outstanding athlete of 1936 - Jesse Owens - O.S." Should we take the handwritten notes at face value Owens signed this card just a few weeks before his appearance at the summer Olympics in Germany where he won four gold medals and became a legend. The card does exhibit some wear in the form of moderate creasing and toning the beginning of the inscription appears to be traced over once as if Owens' pen was running out as he began to sign. Still the signature is strong and attractive potentially a pre-Olympics signature of one of the most legendary American athletes. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
