Best-known for his "How 'bout that?" exclamation Hall of Fame broadcaster Mel Allen's legendary career began as color commentator for CBS' radio broadcast of the 1938 World Series taking over as the play-by-play man for Yankee games when his partner Garnett Marks was fired for mispronouncing "Ivory Soap" as "Ovary Soap" on the air. Over the course of his career he called 22 World Series and 24 All-Star Games and was also the narrator for the famed highlight show This Week In Baseball which he hosted from its inception in 1977 until his passing in 1996. In 2009 the American Sportscasters Association rated Allen as the #2 greatest sportscaster of all-time second to Vin Scully. Not a bad comparison. Presented are five different season passes issued to Allen by various ballclubs in various seasons including the following: 1) 1950 Cleveland Indians "Indians Wigwam" Season Pass: EX condition very slight blemishes along the bottom edge; 2) 1955 Detroit Tigers "Prez Room" pass: EX condition very little wear strong graphics; 3) 1957 New York Yankees Employee Pass: VG condition some wear along the edges and some moderate blemishes down the front of the paper; 4) 1962 Los Angeles Angels Radio-Television Pass: EX condition very mild wear at the upper-right corner; 5) 1963 Kansas City Athletics "A's Room" Pass: EX condition very little wear. Five season passes issued to one of the game's most legendary broadcasters.
