Though our initial catalog description labeled this ticket as a "proof " we have subsequently chosen to alter our description to "full ticket " based on further research. Other tickets - both graded and ungraded - for a variety of sections in the Polo Grounds - have been graded and sold as full tickets so our trepidation regarding the lack of a box number printed on the ticket was unfounded. This lower box seat ticket dated September 19 1947 entitled the bearer to see the New York Cubans and Cleveland Buckeyes with the September 19 game being the first of the six-game contest (the Cubans won the series four games to one with game one called a tie due to rain). All six games were played at different locations including Yankee Stadium Cleveland Municipal Stadium Shibe Park Comiskey Park and League Park. The game opened with Cleveland jumping out to an early 2-0 lead against New York's Dave Barnhill and Johnny Cowen launching a two-run home run. The Cubans rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the 5th but with Sam Jethroe on third base for the Buckeyes the heavens opened ending the game with the 5-5 tie. The ticket is in outstanding condition technically VG/EX due to corner wear but otherwise presents wonderfully a beautiful 3-color piece of art.
