"If you have the football and 11 guys are after you if you're smart you'll run." That was the football philosophy of the "Galloping Ghost " Red Grange. Grange scored three touchdowns in his first college football game and never turned back eventually becoming one of the most popular players to ever play the game. He scored at least one touchdown in every college game he played except one was a three-time All American and made the cover of Time magazine on October 5 1925. Upon signing his first professional contract with the Chicago Bears the team went off on a barnstorming tour where they played 19 games in 67 days including 10 in just 18 days. Grange earned $3 000 per game plus a percentage of the gate ultimately earning $100 000 when the average NFL salary was around $100 per game. On November 21 1925 more than 80 000 fans gathered inside Ohio Stadium for what would be Red Grange's final college football appearance. Grange's Fighting Illini would win the game 14-9 with the Galloping Ghost throwing a 13-yard touchdown pass to give Illinois the lead with 3 minutes left to play and then returning an interception 42 yards from the Illinois 20 to ice the game. The following day Grange signed with the Bears embarking on the tour that would some say legitimize professional football in the eyes of the nation. Presented is a tremendous ticket stub from that game. A very desirable ticket in FAIR condition with minor wear on the front and significant glue staining on the reverse. The piece displays well a highly desirable stub in any condition. This is a beautiful example an Ohio State ticket from one of the most important games of Red Grange's collegiate career - his last.
