Collection of material related to Hall of Famer Art Donovan's participation in a 1978 roast of Weeb Ewbank. Includes a letter on Ewbank's personal letterhead handwritten to Mr. & Mrs. Nonny Bond on which Ewbank states "I expect to be with Artie D. Gino M Allen A John V & Dick S next Tuesday in NYC. The Myasthemia Gravis Foundation is giving me a "Valentines Love Roast" of all places in Grand Central Station. Anything can happen with Donovan & Szymanski talking." Apparently anything did happen - also included in the collection is a 10x8" black and white photo picturing Donovan standing in a room full of people apparently delivering his roast of Ewbank. Donovan was well-known for his colorful (and not safe for work) language and the paper slug attached to the reverse of the photo clearly outlines a very colorful quote from Donovan that seems like the end of a story he told about Ewbank. These items were pulled from a group of paper ephemera photos and letters once belonging to Art Donovan and passed along by Donovan to our consignor a longtime associate and personality in the pro sports world in the mid-Atlantic states. These items were a part of a small folder of correspondence and photos related to Donovan and his family who had a long and storied history in the sport of boxing.
