Most O-Pee-Chee issues were virtually identical to the Topps cards from that season with occasional addition of French copy to the backs and fronts of the cards. In 1971 Topps made a few changes to their American set for the O-Pee-Chee counterpart notably redesigning the back completely and adding a few Montreal expos to the set.Production of the 1971 O-Pee-Chee set was limited estimated by some to be just 5% of the size of the print run of the 1971 American set. As such cards from this set are always in demand. Further like their American cousins the black-bordered 1971 cards are notoriously difficult to obtain in high grade as the black surface is particularly prone to chipping and overall edge wear.Featured here is a higher-grade example of one of the set"s key stars: Hall of Fame hurler Nolan Ryan. Sharp and crisp the card does have some edge chipping that is common to the issue but is well-centered and otherwise strong. A difficult card for Hall of Fame type collectors or Nolan Ryan completists.Population Data:PSA Population: 125 total graded 30 at this level 38 higherSGC Population: 14 total graded none at this level 4 higher
