Extraordinary imperial cabinet photo featuring the 1916 Hartford Senators of the Eastern League. Measuring 14" x 12" including its mount the photo is in outstanding condition and depicts several future and former major leaguers (including Paddy O'Connor who we believe to be standing third from the right). Inexplicably in the center of the photo is future baseball commissioner Kennesaw Mountain Landis arm around what is likely one of several managers the team had in 1916 (including Hall of Famer Jesse Burkett Heinie Wagner George Spires Simon McDonald and team owner James Clarkin). Landis was a judge in Chicago in 1916 so aside from finding his way to Hartford for some reason that summer our research has not uncovered any reason why Landis would have been photographed with the team. Still four years prior to being named Commissioner of baseball the photo is certainly a curiosity. Photo is in outstanding condition presenting as EX with a photographer's stamp on the reverse and a small blue decal with the number "3" written in ink affixed to the back. Minor chipping and wear consistent with its age are also evident.
