Gene "The Fighting Machine" TUnney twice defeated the great Jack Dempsey and retired as heavyweight champion having suffered only one loss early in his career as a light-heavyweight. He is a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame. This portrait of Tunney at his peak is a National Studios image boldly inscribed by Tunney to fellow pug Jimmy Sacco and dated January 30 1927 during Tunney's reign as champion.
