The Philippines have a local history of card collecting primarily through what we would call "W" cards that most closely resemble Japanese Menko. In the Philippines this form of card is called "TEKS" and were quickly and cheaply produced for a variety of pop subjects in the 1970s. TEKS are sold in "sari-sari " which are small food stores. A typical series ran about 60 cards. As was the case in America kids used TEKS cards to gamble primarily via flipping. As a result the cards were literally beaten to pieces and are rare in any condition. The last of the three epic battles between Ali and Frazier took place in 1975 in Manila Philippines. Excitement in the island nation was at a frenzy as these two greats prepared to square off. TEKS manufacturers took advantage of the frenzy over the fight and issued a set of cards in the native Tagalog language. The examples offered here are a few of only a handful of these cards ever seen. Captioned in the local Tagalog three cards total.
