By volume Germany and Great Britain are the two largest European boxing card issuing countries and the Gartmann set is one of the most attractive and unusual sets from Germany. C.H.L. Gartmann was a candy maker that issued many series and sets of cards. Its 1926 issue of 180 cards included six boxers. Three were German local fighters and three are HOFers: Jack Dempsey Gene Tunney and Georges Carpentier. The cards are beautifully rendered paintings of the fighters and taller and much narrower than a standard baseball card; perhaps as might fit into a chocolate bar?
