The 1957 Topps #95 Mickey Mantle is one of the most popular cards of the Yankee slugger surely because of its legend. With Mantle finishing his powerful swing to the left edge of the card an eerie image appears in the background to his left. While clearly some sort of airbrush or photo retouching issue kids in 1957 felt sure that they were seeing the ghost of Babe Ruth looking on as the popular Yankee outfielder posed for the camera. Coming off his dominant 1956 season with the Yankees defeating Brooklyn for the Championship it"s no wonder this card captured the imagination of young baseball fans.Easily the key card in the gorgeous 1957 Topps set this example comes from the "Full Count Find" and is part of the second generation of this multi-generational collection which included a great number of 1957 Topps cards. Fresh to the hobby this example is clean and well-centered with EX corners indicating the card was handled but not abused during its earlier days. Still the centering and excellent image quality make this an outstanding example of one of Mantle"s most desirable cards.
