Presented is N172 pose #355-1 of Hank O"Day one of the newest inductees into the Baseball Hall of Fame. O"Day pictured here with bat in hand was the only man in history to play umpire and manage in the National League. He was an umpire in the first World Series in 1903 and officiated nine more Series during his 35-year career. It was O"Day who made what is probably still the most famous "out" call in history - the one where Hall of Famer Johnny Evers produced the baseball and stepped on second base forcing out Fred Merkle in that infamous 1908 game between the Cubs and the Giants.O"Day pitched for the 1889 champion New York Giants alongside Buck Ewing Jim O"Rourke John Montgomery Ward Roger Connor Tim Keefe and Mickey Welch - certainly one of the most famous 19th Century baseball teams. This card graded FAIR 20 by SGC has received its grade due to overall wear at the corners edges and surface. There also appears to be back damage possibly paper pull and/or staining. The image quality however - the standard of measurement for quality N172s - is relatively strong with high contrast. This is pose #355-1 according to The Photographic Baseball Cards of Goodwin & Company. An excellent example of one of the more affordable cards of the newest Hall of Famer.Population DataSGC Population: 24 total graded 5 at this level 17 higher*PSA Population: 8 total graded 0 at this level 5 higher*Please note that SGC does not differentiate between N172 pose variations in their population reports so the number of cards with this pose they have graded is unknown.
