Yet another group of memorabilia items that demonstrate the close relationship between the game of baseball and children this is a collection of four six-inch wooden rulers each of which advertises a product on the front and a baseball team"s schedule on the reverse. The collection contains rulers advertising schedules for the 1917 Pittsburgh Pirates 1917 Boston Red Sox (2) and the 1923 Washington Senators. Each ruler is in Good to Very Good condition exhibiting the type of wear one would expect from a wooden ruler that was used as it was intended nearly 100 years ago: surface edge and corner wear some staining and discoloration and even ink marks. One of the Boston rulers has significant chipping to the wood edge on the front revealing the ruler"s metal straight edge. Aside from those flaws the rulers are still attractive display pieces each of which still measures accurately after nearly a century. The Pittsburgh Pirates ruler advertises a local businessman who calls himself "Slim" the barber and that alone is worth owning this entire collection.Four very unique and interesting pieces of baseball-related memorabilia that emphasizes the local nature of the game in its earlier years as well as the appeal it had with children.
