Interesting and highly desirable baseball "currency" as issued in Emporia Kansas by the Lewis & Edwards Tailor and good for 5% off any purchase over $5.00. The Detroit Wolverines today remain one of the era"s most popular teams despite the 1888 season being the team"s last. Featuring eventual Hall of Famers Dan Brouthers Deacon White Ned Hanlon and Sam Thompson the Wolverines finished the 1888 season with a 68-63 record good only for fifth place. At the end of the season the players were sold off and the team disbanded despite having played the first game of major league baseball just seven years prior. This piece is in good condition exhibiting the wear one would expect from a piece like this that spent much time changing hands or stored in a pocket for extended periods: significant folding and wrinkling with considerable edge chips tears and general wear. Still the currency is intact and displays well. Featured on the front is Detroit manager Bill Watkins and on the reverse can be found Lady Baldwin Chas. Bennett Fatty Briody Dan Brouthers (HOF) Fred Dunlap Charlie Ganzel Ned Hanlon (HOF) Hardy Richardson Jack Rowe Sam Thompson (HOF) Stump Wiedman and Deacon White (HOF).An outstanding document of 19th Century baseball and its use in commercial advertising.
