For the past several auctions we have featured signed magazines yearbooks and programs from the estate of a former employee of Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego. In addition to being a dedicated through-the-mail autograph collector he maintained a collection of periodicals and books that he had personally signed at Stadium events as well as at other sporting events he attended. Our consignor has partnered with us to deliver several extraordinary signed pieces in each of our auctions and this sale is no exception.Presented here is one of the most remarkable pieces in the entire collection: a hardcover copy of Donald Honig"s book The National League: An Illustrated History. One of dozens of baseball books written by Honig this one details the history of the National League with a healthy dose of large clear photographs - the kind our collector loved to have signed by their subjects. This book has been signed by an astounding 88 players over the years from the obscure to the Hall of Famers. Each player has signed in the book near or on his photo resulting in an heirloom-quality piece that can be continuously expanded upon by dedicated collectors or left as-is as an historical artifact. The book itself is in strong condition its dust jacket intact and its cover and spine exhibiting moderate wear but in strong condition. The inside front cover has a slight paper pull from where an address label was removed to protect the identity of the collector and his family. The signatures contained herein are as follows: Billy Herman (HOF) Johnny Mize (HOF) Johnny Vander Meer Max West Bobby Bragan Dolph Camilli Stan Musial (HOF) Enos Slaughter (HOF) Mickey Owen Frenchy Bordagaray Andy Pafko Red Schoendienst (HOF) Ralph Kiner (HOF) Duke Snider (HOF) Del Crandall Robin Roberts (HOF) Richie Ashburn (HOF) Bobby Thompson Monte Irvin (HOF) Whitey Lockman Bobby Thompson Joe Black Ralph Branca Billy Loes Clem Labine Hoyt Wilhelm (HOF) Al Dark Dee Fondy Hank Sauer Eddie Mathews (HOF) Johnny Logan Stu Miller Joe Adcock Lew Burdette Bob Buhl Johnny Podres Jim Davenport Orlando Cepeda (HOF) Wally Moon Bill Mazeroski (HOF) Felipe Alou Juan Marichal (HOF) Willie McCovey (HOF) Maury Wills Tommy Davis Don Drysdale (HOF) Warren Spahn (HOF) Ron Perranoski Joe Torre Curt Flood Bob Veale Claude Osteen Jim Ray Hart Jimmy Wynn Larry Dierker Richie
