Joe "Flash" Gordon had a stellar 1942 season. He hit .322 with 18 home runs and 103 bases stole 12 bases and scored 88 runs helping lead the Yankees to the World Series which they lost in 5 games to the Cardinals. For his efforts he received the American League MVP award. The problem with this was that 400 miles north Red Sox outfielder Ted Williams hit .356 with 36 home runs 137 RBI and a whopping 141 runs scored. The Splendid Splinter finished second in the MVP voting in a season where he clearly should have won it despite Gordon"s excellent season. It was Gordon"s slick fielding and team leadership that pushed him over the edge a sportsmanlike Williams quoted as saying "I"m glad Gordon got it. I think he kept the Yankees up there all season."Gordon continued on traded to Cleveland in 1947 where he finished out his major league career before moving to the Pacific Coast League and becoming a player-manager. He was enshrined in the Hall of Fame in 2009 by the Veteran"s Committee. This 8x10" photo authenticated by PSA/DNA has been signed by Gordon in blue ink across his uniform. Showing slight signs of wear the photo displays well an attractive collectible of a Yankee great.
