Historically important program from the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm. Measuring 12 1/2" x 9 3/4" 16-page black and white program (that begins with page 226 suggesting it may be part of a larger series) features accounts of the 1912 Olympic games with photos of the participants including Jim Thorpe. Thorpe competed in two new Olympic events the Pentathlon and the Decathlon. Thorpe won Gold Medals for both and in addition to receiving the medals won two prizes which were donated by King Gustav of Sweden and Czar Nicholas II of Russia. When Thorpe was presented with his prize by King Gustav Gistav told Thorpe "You sir are the greatest athlete in the world." Thorpe famously responded "Thanks King." THe program is in VG condition with some edge wear slightly pulling away from its interior staples. The inside pages slightly smaller than the cover pages have been protected well over the years and remain in better condition than the cover. An excellent piece related to Jim Thorpe's dominance in the 1912 Summer Olympics.
