Identifying unidentified players is somewhat of a hobby of ours; the gratification that we take from helping give a subject his name back is tremendous. Unfortunately in this case we fell short; this Red Wing MN based player clearly played for a team that used the "Red Wing" town name literally; a single wing on the left breast of the player's flannel jersey is indicative of that. The quality of the image is tremendous the detail simply wonderful from his pillbox cap to the lacing of his jersey. The cabinet does exhibit some soiling to the borders of the mount along with some mild foxing; overall corner and edge wear is also evident. Despite all this a wonderful quality photo of a 19th Century Minnesota player. PLEASE NOTE: In reviewing our description of this item we have realized that we neglected to describe or picture pencil writing on the reverse of the cabinet. We are advising current bidders of this via errata email and providing them the opportunity to cancel their bids on this item if they would like provided that we are advised of this prior to 9PM Eastern on the closing night of the auction. Additionally we have also been advised that a possible identity of the player is "Chas. Towle." Our consignor was given this name when he initially purchased the piece from a family member. Unfortunately however our research has been unable to confirm this identity for certain. However for a potential researcher "Chas. Towle" may be a starting place for identifying him!
