Curt Flood was one of the most important figures in baseball history not as much for his exploits on the field as for taking a stand off it refusing to accept a trade from the Cardinals to the Phillies. He took his case to the Supreme Court claiming that Baseball's reserve clause was unfair and requesting free agency. Ultimately in 1972 the Court ruled in favor of Baseball and Flood was ultimately blackballed rom the game though the results of his suit helped modify the reserve clause as well as establish what is known today as the 10/5 rule. Flood was a three-time All-Star with seven consecutive Gold Gloves but after a brief comeback attempt with the 1971 Senators he never played major league ball again. Presented is an incredible letter written to one Clark Parker of Palo Alto CA with an inspirational message.
