Exceptional collection of letters and memorabilia related to the colorful Hall of Fame owner Bill Veeck. Signed in black fiber tip marker by Veeck full LOA from James Spence Authentication. 4) Unsigned version of the same ticket EX/MT condition. Bill Veeck was at various times owner of the Cleveland Indians St. Louis Browns and Chicago White Sox. He was responsible for signing Larry Doby to Cleveland in 1947 helping to integrate the American League. While known primarily for his colorful antics like sending Eddie Gaedel up to bat or staging Disco Demolition Night in Chicago we are more fond of this anecdote told by New Jersey native Larry Doby. "One by one Lou (Boudreau) introduced me to each player. 'This is Joe Gordon ' and Gordon put his hand out. 'This is Bob Lemon ' and Lemon put his hand out. 'This is Jim Hegan ' and Hegan put his hand out. All the guys put their hand out all but three. As soon as he could Bill Veeck got rid of those three." Doby a class act never divulged the names of those three players. But the story is a statement on Veeck. Four pieces total.
