The 1948 Bowman basketball issue is the first set dedicated exclusively to basketball a full-color set popular today for its star power for the rookie cards of Andy Phillip Buddy Jeannette Arnie Risen and Jim Pollard and of course for the immensely valuable rookie card of Hall of Famer George Mikan. Cards from this issue occasionally appear with the red or blue coloring missing. Conventional wisdom is that these are a result of a simple printing error where the printing press ran out of red or blue ink. Uncut sheets have surfaced with the color missing on the entire sheet which supports this theory. The result is a series of printing variations in the second series of cards which are highly sought after by collectors today. Presented here is a group of 14 cards from the 1948 Bowman basketball set each missing the red ink pass and graded “AUTHENTIC” by PSA as a result. We have elected to break this group into individual cards so they are more affordable to type collectors; the cards are scarce in comparison to the regular 1948 Bowmans and therefore typically sell for a premium. Attractive and well-centered card #49 of Bob Kinney.
