Spectacular, colorful medallion issued as a gift of the Hosei University Base Ball Team to Mr. A. Patchin.  The 1" diameter medallion pictures the Hosei University (Japan) logo inside a stylized baseball, a blue band surrounding the ball into which the words "Memory of Japan Tour 1932" are embossed.

Mr. A Patchin is very likely Art Patchin, a freshman at the University of Michigan, who visited Japan to play baseball in 1932.  Patchin lettered in baseball from 1933 through 1935, and then in 1936 latched on to the Augusta Tigers of the Sally League, an affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.  That season he posted an 18-13 record with a 3.05 ERA.  He remained in the Tigers system through 1937 then moved to the Pirates system in 1938.  After giving the minors a couple more seasons, Patchin ended where he began, in Augusta, where he retired and evidently spent the rest of his days.  He passed away in Augusta in 1977, and is buried there.

The medallion is in outstanding condition, an interesting memento of baseball's growing relationship with prewar Japan.
