Compelling pair of Type 1 news service photos depicting action during Game 1 of the 1919 World Series: 1) Heinie Groh of the Reds slides safely into third base during bottom of the 7th inning, beating Buck Weaver's tag. Groh reached third following a sac bunt attempt by Edd Roush which prompted an error by White Sox first baseman Chick Gandil, a principal member of the fix. Photo displays beautifully with much of the original paper caption still affixed to verso. A date stamp of Oct. 6, 1919 also appears along with various newspaper clippings. 2) Reds starting pitcher Dutch Ruether rounds third base after blasting a triple to CF, surrendered by White Sox reliever Grover Lowermilk. Curiously, conspirator Buck Weaver appears rather uninterested as the play unfolds. Measures 6.5" x 8.5" with heavy creasing present to three of the four corners. Verso displays a handwritten inscription at the top, detailing the play, and a date stamp of Oct. 2, 1919 is present at the bottom. Both photos include full LOA's from PSA/DNA.
