There are two different Harry Howell cards included in the T206
set. One is a portrait in front of a yellow background. This version, featuring a nearly full-body portrait of Howell with his left hand at his waist, also in front of a yellow background, is the slightly more rare of the two. While the colors remain vibrant after 115 years, creasing and some light staining are present on both sides of the card.
The card's main issue is having all four corners cut, presumably to remove tape residue from being in a scrapbook for years. No matter the condition of the rest of the card, any alteration of that severity is an automatic Authentic Altered grade, which this card has received from PSA. PSA has
only ever graded 7 total
examples of this Lenox Black back version of the Howell,
with
only five receiving a
higher grade than the AA offered here.
Howell led MLB with 35 complete games for the 1905 St. Louis Browns. His 1.212 career WHIP is top-200 all time.
