Attractive c.1910's glass magic lantern slide depicting Tyrus Raymond Cobb beside longtime AL umpire, Jack Sheridan. Splashes of color have been added to the image via hand-tinting, with Cobb sporting an away uniform consistent with those of his 1907-1912 Tigers. Given what we know regarding the origins of the slide collection in this auction we're confident the true date of the shot likely falls between 1910-12. Black paper border surrounding the 3.25" x 4" translucent slide remains fully intact with some soiling resting on the glass surface, unobtrusive to the central image. A vertical paper label remains affixed along left edge, though no markings are present. Slide originates from the estate of former Cleveland Plain Dealer staff photographer Frank W. Smith, who traveled with the Cleveland Naps to their spring facilities for many years during the 1910's. One of close to sixty glass magic lantern slides offered in our spring auction from the original photographer's collection. All slides from this collection have been professionally imaged and winning bidders will receive both the slides and a one-of-a-kind 8" x 10" archival quality print with their shipment.
