Remarkeable mounted photograph picturing future Hall of Famer Tris Speaker during the earliest seasons of his career. Research has revealed the collared uniform style depicted to be consistent with how the Red Sox took the field for home games during Speaker's first three season from 1907-1909. "The Grey Eagle" is posed before a 19th Century-style backdrop as he demonstrates his split grip approach with an attractive ring bat. Approx. 7.5" x 9.5" photo has been affixed to a heavy mount that has deteriorated around the edges. This has been framed to overall dimensions of approx 13.5" x 11.5" with the photo itself measuring 7.5" x 9.5". Photo surface shows obvious signs of abrasion, most notably towards the left edge, and chipping is apparent around the perimeter. Frame features a glass back allowing verso of mount to be easily viewed. Evidence of staining is apparent on verso which also displays a handwritten identification of Speaker. A fascinating photograph from the rookie-era of a member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame's inaugural 1939 induction class.
